freeterrain -> help

need help? check out these quick tips. if this doesn’t cut it, hit us up on feedback. don't be shy...we need to know what's not workin' for you so we can update and enhance our services on the regular.

getting started: registering yourself as a freeterrain user will give you complete and full access to the site, although it is not necessary. almost everything may be done as a visitor, however, users do benefit from saving time on postings, offering props on well-deserved posts, registering for monthly contests, and getting engraved on our dedication page.

to register: simply click “login” on the front page and then “register”. when the login page opens, the registration page will prompt you through an easy personal information profile piece, click “sign up” and you’re done. you will receive an email confirming your registration and then you are ready to rock.

to post: click “post” on the front page. when the create posting page opens, select a category to file your posting under. once you have selected a category, the posting screen will appear. the category you chose should appear at the top of the page, if the category is incorrect, go back and re-try your selection. fill in all required information on the posting screen as the directions state. you may choose to have props tallied or receive replies on your post, and you may choose to include files containing audio, video, or still images (more info on all those choices to follow). when all fields are entered, click continue to view your post. edits may be made from this new screen. go back, make your corrections and then continue….if all is well, type in the verification word and click “continue”. read and accept the TERMS OF USE to proceed. lastly, a note with further instructions will appear. if you are a registered user….you are done. if you are not yet registered, you must go to your email to finish your posting.

give or receive props: props are tallied directly on the post for users who choose this option while posting. it is a way to seek a lil’ recognition for your works and gain a lil’ respect. if you want to include props in your posting, simply select the “want props” option when filing your post. to give props, look to the upper right hand corner of the screen while you are viewing a user's post and select “give props”. you must be logged in to do so. you will be asked to verify your selection, click “yes” and, almost immediately, you should see the props ticker change.

posting reply options: during your post, you will be asked to choose either an anonymous email option for replies, or no email for replies. it is purely up to you and what you feel comfortable with. this is an option you may change from your edit email if you decide later, for, or against. we do suggest, however, using the anonymous email option rather than giving your real email in your post, simply for privacy protection purposes.

uploading files: while you are in the posting screen, you are given an option below to upload files. we support audio, video and still image files within a certain sizing guideline. select “add/edit images…” and then use the browse tools to select files from your hard drive. the file name should appear as you add each file to your post. the files may be seen in the edit screen after you click “continue”.

embed YouTube files: if you have trouble uploading or converting video, our friends at YouTube have made things easy for us. just copy the "embed" code while you are in the viewers window of the selected video on YouTube and then paste the code into the content box of our posting.  you may add comments first, then double space before copying the code.  view your video in the edit screen and then click post.

search: the search option allows users to find posts within categories or sub-categories, using title, keywords, and location. click “search” and use the drop down menu to assist in finding your post.

monthly contest: click “featured monthly contest” to view the current month’s contest details, deadlines and file parameters for uploads. from that screen you are eligible to enter if you wish, however, you must be a registered user to do so. you will recognize the monthly contest posting screen as it resembles the regular posting screen almost identically. a contest fee is required for each entry. the fee is $7 and is simply a donation for site support.  the posting screen will guide you through the secure payment feature. you may enter as many times as you wish. you must be 13 years of age to enter, kids not quite 13, may enter using a parent or guardians’ registered name.

feedback: we want to hear from you! please feel free to leave feedback on any topic at any time. simply click “feedback” and fill in all required blanks just like a regular posting. if you want a reply, make sure to include an email option so a response may be forwarded in a timely fashion.

fresh gear: from the creative minds of kat, the crew, and those chosen from you.  check back often to see what new sweet stuff we come up with.

get engraved: send a shoutout to an artist you may know, or thank those that have gotten you to where you are today. it's tagging that won't get you arrested.  simply click "get engraved" and  then while viewing the dedication page look for the link to "get engraved" on the top right of your screen.  show your site support, as well as that for the arts with the $5 donation.

become a sponsor: freeterrain is always looking to develop positive relationships with corporate and individual sponsors. we encourage those that share the mindset of constructive creativity to get involved on any level imaginable. freeterrain is very young and holds endless opportunities and capabilities. we look forward to the evolution and we’d love for you to join us for the ride!
